Antique Teddy Bears Arrive at Asquiths | Steiff & Vintage Bears
A Little Secret We've Been Keeping... Introducing Our Antique Teddy Bear Collection
Some secrets are simply too lovely to keep forever.
For many months we've been quietly working behind the scenes on a project that is incredibly close to our hearts, carefully bringing together a small but truly exceptional collection of antique teddy bears. Today, we're delighted to finally introduce them to you.
At Asquiths, we've always believed that every teddy bear has a story. Some have comforted generations of children, some have travelled across continents, and others have quietly witnessed over a century of history. Our newest arrivals are no exception.
Among the collection is 'Boots', a charming early German teddy bear dating from around 1910, who was once one of the favourite bears of renowned teddy bear collector and historian Colonel Bob Henderson. Alongside him sits an exceptionally rare Steiff teddy bear from 1906–1907 (Art. No. 5350), one of the earliest surviving examples from the company that helped shape teddy bear history.
These are far more than collectable bears. They are remarkable pieces of craftsmanship, history and childhood nostalgia, each carrying the character and gentle wear that only time can create. Every stitched nose, faded paw pad and lovingly repaired seam tells part of a story that deserves to be remembered.
More Than Teddy Bears
One of the greatest pleasures of owning and caring for antique teddy bears is discovering the lives they have lived before arriving with us. Whenever possible, we research each bear's maker, age and provenance, piecing together the clues that reveal their unique journey through history.
Some bears arrive with fascinating family histories. Others leave us asking questions that may never be fully answered. For us, that's all part of their charm.
Over the coming weeks we'll be introducing each member of the collection individually, exploring their origins, sharing what we've discovered and explaining why these bears continue to capture the hearts of collectors more than a century after they were first made.
Whether you're an experienced teddy bear collector or simply someone who has always loved old bears, we hope you'll enjoy following their stories.
